Dates for Your Diary

Friday 29 June                                    End of Year (half day)

Monday 13 August                              Start of 2018-2019 School Year

Dear Parents,

As we say farewell to our Year 6 leavers, other children and families who are leaving KJS at the end of 2017/18 we reflect back on a wonderful year of learning, laughter, action and joy. It is a time to celebrate how successful our leavers are and the active and motivated way they have engaged with the learning experiences at school during the year. If I might make some observations, especially about the Year 6 children at KJS, coming from New Zealand and in my first year at KJS I have noticed:

  • How aware children are of their progress and achievement and how they are prepared to be courageous, take risks and through reflection, learn from their mistakes

  • The significant progress the children have made during the year and how through inquiry they have developed knowledge, skills and attitudes

  • How articulate they are when they communicate their learning and interact with others

  • How responsible they are for their own learning, knowing their goals and next steps and showing determination to achieve their goals

  • Their principled characters evidenced by the high levels of respect for self, for others and for the environment, especially evident in the PYPX

  • The open minded response to an incredibly wide range of learning opportunities available, developing them as balanced learners and internationally minded citizens

  • The critical and creative thinking evidenced throughout the year

  • The positive and caring way in which children interact with one another developing healthy and supportive relationships together with the focus they have on their own wellbeing and that of others

  • The joy they display each day

Late in 2017, parents and staff confirmed the AAROW's of success as appropriate indicators of “Success for Every Child” at KJS. If this is our measure then I am happy to say we are making great progress toward achieving our vision for each child here at KJS.

We are only able to achieve our vision due to a supportive community, School Council, PTA the ESF family and the quality of the staff who work tirelessly at KJS. You will be aware we will farewell a number of staff this year, their contribution to KJS (in some cases extending to nearly 20 years) is immense and deeply appreciated. We wish them all the best as they head to new jobs, new situations and new countries. While we have been able to attract exceptional candidates to replace our departing staff we will miss those who have been such an important part of the history of KJS.

It will be exciting times ahead for our leavers (especially our Year 6 children heading to High School) for the staff who are departing and for the school with new highly motivated, qualified and experienced staff coming to join us as we continue to strive to provide an exceptional learning environment for your children.

We wish you a safe and restful summer break and look forward to welcoming families and children back in the new academic year.

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Principal

Parent's Guide to Fortnite

Over the summer (or perhaps already) your child might access and begin playing Fortnite. There are some very serious implications for your family if your child gets 'hooked' into this game.

Please take five minutes to read this information publication: a parents guide to Fortnite.

PTA Update

The PTA would like to thank all the parents, teachers and children who have helped make this year a spectacular one.  We raised funds to put towards the development of ‘Secret Gardens' around the school, and the purchasing of new and additional equipment for the playground.

A huge thank you to our administrative staff, Naomi Chow and Candy So, for their tireless efforts at events and in running the PTA office.

We hope you have a great summer and look forward to reconvening with you and your families after the summer.

We would like to wish our Year 6 graduates all the best on their next adventure.

Thank you.
