We have applicants from all over the world who want to come to Hong Kong and work within ESF. What has impressed me is the high regard the foundation is held in and the very positive reputation ESF has internationally. This is great for you as parents as it means we are able to attract the best from around the world to teach your children. We have a number of vacancies for the 2018/19 academic year so our leadership team has been very invested in the process. I am pleased to say we are making very positive progress as we seek to place the best possible teachers in KJS as we strive for 'Success for Every Child'. Additionally, the admissions process is in full swing with staff working through the comprehensive process under the leadership of Jane Parker. Once again the interest in positions at KJS (and ESF) reinforces the reputation of the school in the wider Hong Kong educational community. On a totally different note, I went to see Michael McIntyre last night in the Star Hall with Mrs O'Reilly. His show certainly had the audience laughing, especially about some of the unique Hong Kong experiences and lifestyles. It did highlight for me if we are truly developing internationally minded citizens we must give our children opportunities for a wide range of experiences beyond the home and the school. The camps we are running at present are a good example of this. Allowing children to make their own bed, dress themselves, organise their own breakfast, clean up after themselves, manage their own hygiene and wellbeing, deal with challenges and conflict all without the adult (parent, helper, teacher, educational assistant) doing it for them. Given many of our children go on to live and study and potentially work in the UK, USA or Australia it is important our children are able to manage themselves and understand different cultures and environments. Helping our children to develop the skills identified in the PYP learner profile requires we all think very carefully about the decisions we are making for children that they could make for themselves and the things we (or others) do for children that they need to do for themselves! I encourage you to have a family chat about what you can do at home to develop the attributes in the learner profile and to support your children toward being internationally minded citizens (go to a few comedy shows as well!) Regards Neill Principal PTA UpdatePTA Meeting and Farewell for Karen on 12 December 2017We will be having our next PTA Meeting on 12 December 2017 in the school hall from 4pm. We will be hosting a small gathering for Karen Thomas before she leaves. Please do let us know if you would like to be a part of this meeting by emailing the PTA office at pta@kjs.edu.hk by the end of this week, 1 December 2017. School Disco on 19 January 2018We will be having a ‘Red and Gold' themed School Disco in January. Tickets will be on sale at the PTA office from next week onwards. Please note the following details. Be sure to pick up your tickets early to avoid disappointment. We are looking for volunteers for the school disco. If you will be coming and can spare 30 to 60 minutes, please do sign up at the PTA office or email us to let us know that you can help.  School Fair on 17 March 2018We have been receiving some amazing sponsorships, cash donations and auction items from parents. Thank you so much. Our events are only successful through your help and continued support. Our fair will be an exciting one with our raffle, many exciting prizes to be won, our growing auction, fun-filled games, a vast variety of international foods and a special shopping selection too. We are still accepting donations for the fair and items for our school auction. If you would like to make a donation or help in any way, please do approach the PTA office directly. School Winter UniformWinter uniform items are still available in the PTA office. Please note that the PTA office is open from Monday to Friday from 8:15 to 11:00 a.m. and 2:30p.m. to 3:30p.m. Special Afternoon Tea - 14 DecemberPlease register through this link to RSVP for the special farewell afternoon tea for Ms Karen Thomas. Student SuccessAlula (2S) had her first performance with her Capoeira group from The Hong Kong School of Capoeira. They performed at the Discovery Bay Cultural Carnival and was felicitated with a certificate of thanks. She would like to share this achievement with the KJS community. Congratulations Alula!  ESF and Other NoticesESF 50th Anniversary Commemorative Book To mark ESF's half-century, we are publishing a commemorative book: ESF The First 50 Years. This volume will chronicle the ESF story, highlighting key events over the last 50 years. It will also celebrate the successes and contributions of our students and staff, both past and current.
