Working together to achieve success for every child
Welcome to the 17th edition and Term 3!
Where we are in Place and Time: “Knowing about family history helps us understand the relationship between past and present”
Transdisciplinary Learning – It’s all connected!
The children are deep into their unit ‘Where we are in Place Time’. Over the last 2 weeks, they have continued to explore timelines and family history. Some classes have been fortunate to have guest speakers from parents and grandparents to provide deeper understanding into the past and how family history is recorded.
Students have been exploring photos from the past. They have used technology and explored the camera application to see how they can change photos to look like they are from the past.
Ask your child:
- What events are you including in your timeline?
- Do I need to help you with times and dates for your timeline?
During literacy over the last 2 weeks, students have been exploring historical stories. Students have begun to create their own historical stories. Students have used planning strategies such as story mountain and Talk for Writing. They have been providing feedback to their peers on how they have used the success criteria to create their story.
Ask your child:
- What is your historical story about?
In Maths the students have been looking at multiplication and division. They have been working on how to demonstrate equal groups and work with problems with equal groups. Students are exploring ways they can share their thinking and how they can connect their prior learning with their new knowledge.
Year 2 children are inquiring into Chinese learning through songs, stories and rhymes. Different learning opportunities are provided for children to explore their interests and promote agentic learning.
Here’s a glimpse of the happenings in some of our classrooms:
Suggestions for Supporting Learning at Home
When reading with you child, ask them to look for past tense words.
The children are going to be starting to write their own historical stories. At home talk to your children about memories/stories from your childhood. Also talk to them about theirs.
