Yr2 Curriculum Update - 15/02/19

Working together to achieve success for every child

Welcome to the 11th edition!

Who We Are: “Making choices that develop respectful relationships with ourselves, others and the environment defines who we are as individuals and as a community.”

Transdisciplinary Learning – It's all connected!

The children have been concluding their learning about celebrations by completing their videos for evidencer. Evidencer will go live on Friday 15th. Please take the time to have a look and discuss the video/s with your children. All children have the same amount of evidence, but some children have uploaded one video with all their evidence and others have uploaded one video for each piece.

The children have been continuing their learning about wellbeing this week. In Year 2 they have been talking about how they defined community previously and how they can be respectful of themselves, others and the environment during shared play. During shared play they worked in small groups to construct success criteria. The children developed this throughout the play session and will implement and continue to use this success criteria in the future play.

Literacy

The children are now writing their own stories based on The Little Red Hen. They have been using their imagination to create a an exciting story, while applying their writing skills. The children have been working hard to write their stories and edit them, using their class success criteria. Some children have started to create front covers so that they can publish their story. Ask your child about their story and the skills they've been using.

Maths

The children have been continuing their work on addition. They have been sharing their strategies and how to use equipment to support their learning. They are working on using the most efficient and effective method to add.

PE

The children have been working on planning to solve problems in PE. They have been thinking about how they cooperate, talk and listen to each other. They have also been thinking about how to be safe and respect themselves and others. Children from Jockey Club Sarah Roe School have been joining our PE sessions and we have been showing them how we have been using these skills.

Chinese

In the Chinese classrooms, the Year 2 children continued to inquire into the celebration of Chinese New Year. They reviewed the 12 Animals of the Zodiac, Chinese New Year legends and customs. Connections to learning are made using Chinese songs, rhymes, games, stories.

Here's a glimpse of the happenings in our classrooms:

Suggestions for Supporting Learning at Home

Sharing the Planet will be our new unit commencing next week. In preparation you could:
