Yr3 Curriculum Update - 12/04/19Working together to achieve success for every childWelcome to our 15th edition! In each update, the Year 3 Team will bring you snapshots of what your children in Year Three have been up to every 2 weeks. You will see a variety of learning experiences exemplifying learning which is fun, exciting, challenging, innovative and/or creative...and whatever they are, we know that your child has worked really hard to get there and should you have the chance, you may want to share this newsletter with your child to find out the juicy details and discuss the great learning they have been doing! Firstly, we wanted to thank you all for coming along to our student led conferences this week. Year 3 students did an incredible job explaining and sharing their learning experiences. It was fantastic to hear their enthusiasm and it was a great opportunity to have you all included in our learning journey. Transdisciplinary Learning - It's all connected!‘A scientific understanding of natural hazards reduces the impact on human societies.' Half way through our Natural Hazards inquiry our understanding is becoming deeper and our questions more complex. We are starting to understand the causes of natural hazards and make connections by discussing differences and similarities between them. We have also really enjoyed applying our learning about How the World Works through art. We practiced blending skills with oil pastels, thought about ‘my beautiful earth' and were inspired by The Great Wave of Kanagawa by the Japanese artist Hokusai. Maths In maths we have begun our new unit all about pattern, which is deemed by many as one of the most important branches of mathematics. It connects addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with shape, art, design and even music. This week has been all about what we already know and what we want to find out. We have realised that we can find lots of patterns around us. We understand that patterns repeat and can be shape, colour or numbers. We want to find out more about what the word ‘term' means in patterns. Literacy This week in writing we have been continuing our learning of news reports and have had a go at writing our own. We are using our knowledge of report features and including where, what, when, who and why. We have also been interviewing eyewitnesses and learning about quotes. Chinese Year 3: In the Chinese classrooms, we continue to focus on the concept of wellbeing and providing different learning opportunities for children to explore their own interests and promote agentic learning. Connections to learning are made using Chinese songs, rhymes, games and stories. Here is a glimpse of some of our classrooms: At home you might like to…
