Yr5 Curriculum Update - 15/02/19Working together to achieve success for every childUnit of Inquiry With delight and pride, we end the unit by celebrating the students' learning. It has been a huge joy seeing the students engaging themselves so wholeheartedly in their personal inquiries. While a lot have chosen to present their findings in the form of google sites or google slides, we are proud to see creative presentations like news reports and even puppet shows. All these inquiries highlight the students' understanding of the concepts of our unit - causation of migration (push & pull factors); changes brought by migration (to the individual and communities involved) and different people's perspectives on migration. It has been a delight to see the students engaging deeply on the research process - reading books, newspaper reports, watching videos and using their critical thinking skills to select the best ideas for their inquiries. Literacy The students engaged themselves in writing poems or stories about migration. One of the highlights was to help the students develop “voice” in their writing. This was done through various activities such as ones requiring the students to create dialogues for their characters. “I really enjoyed writing the poem because I liked how I could express myself.” Ishan 5T Maths Our current focus on maths is on helping students develop different strategies to solve real life multiplication and division problems. We have also explored how our mathematical mindsets can help us as mathematicians, and how developing our number sense can help us tackle multiplication problems more effectively. “I really enjoyed looking for patterns to solve multiplication and division problems.” Moe 5S Chinese Year 5: In the Chinese classrooms, we continue to focus on the concept of wellbeing and providing different learning opportunities for children to explore their own interests and promote agentic learning.
