Yr1 Weekly Update – 01/06/17

Imagination can be shared through storytelling…

This week, we visited the theatre to watch a performance of the story, ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed experiencing how stories can be told through drama. Back in the classroom, we read the book and watched a puppet show of the same story. This allowed us to compare the techniques used to tell a story using different art forms. Can you retell the story of ‘The Way Back Home’ to a member of your family?

As a year group, we retold the familiar story, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen using a variety of artforms. We retold it using puppets, movement, acting, by sing sound effects; and even through yoga! We reflected on this in our classes and discussed which art forms told this story most successfully and why. What was your favourite way of telling this story? Why?

In Maths, we have been generating our own mathematical questions to pictures and then trying to solve our own questions.
