Unit of Inquiry

This week we were treated to a talk from our very own Ms Howells who has lived in Hong Kong all her life. We saw pictures of the old Nathan Road and old and new Shatin. Most children said they preferred new Shatin.  It was a good opportunity to practise our dialectical thought.    Ms Howells told us why buildings around Kowloon Tong used to be low-rise.  We learned that when Ms Howells came home from school, the water would be shut off.  She then showed us water pipes that were built to bring water from the Mainland.   Everyone enjoyed looking at the expanding Hong Kong City Skyline.  In 1975 Jadine House looked really tall!

Maths

Classes are continuing to work on open maths tasks around fractions of collections of objects and placing fractions on a line.  Please have a look on KJS Facebook page to see some of the photos of this week’s work.

Literacy

Work is continuing around the text type expositions and children are beginning to connect their writing with our Unit of Inquiry, answering the question “Which is better, old or new Hong Kong?”. In reading, children are continuing to infer – one of the skills good readers use.
