Unit of Inquiry

This is the first week of our Unit about food and the processes it goes through to arrive in our homes. Children have been looking at the food packaging from items they have at home and recording where different foods come from. Please talk to your child and discuss why we import food from different places.

Maths

Most classes are working on measurement this week. We’ve talked about the different ways we can measure things and the units of measurement that can be used. We  estimated using non-standard and standard units of measurement and used rulers to measure accurately. All the children were invited to design a plane to see whose would travel the furthest. Play some estimating games at home with your child. Ask them to estimate your height, the height of the ceiling, length of the table etc.

Literacy

Comprehension of texts is a key focus in literacy in this unit. Children should continue to read for meaning and be able to retell and summarise key events from a text. Presentation skills will also be an important part and classes have already begun honing their skills of talking in front of a screen.

SCHOOL FAIR

A really big ‘THANK YOU’ to all the year 3 parents who have offered their support to help at the games stalls on Saturday.    See you there.

Kind regards, Year 3 team.
