CAMP UPDATE

The time has come the time is now… Y6 camp is happening on Monday!

We started the week with some former KJS students who came in as guest speakers to talk to the students about camp. They did a great job of alleviating some of the fears of the Y6’s and gave them some helpful hints of what to pack!

The students brought in their bags this week and found it really useful to unpack and repack their bags so they knew what was in it and how to fit everything in properly.  Please remember to send in their sleeping bag and sleeping mat on Monday and anything else that they forgot! The students will come to school dressed in their KJS PE kit on Monday.

Please ensure that any PRESCRIBED medicine is sent to camp in a Ziplock bag with your child’s name and clear instructions on how to administer the medication. Students should not be packing any over the counter medicine, devices, food, or snacks of any kind. They will be given snack and lunch on Monday (and every day) at camp.

STUDENT LEARNING

As we continue to inquire into how current and emerging communication technology impacts society, we are now putting our skills of inquiry, collecting data, and synthesizing, to work. Students are using an explanation text to explain their choice of a current form of communication technology and/or the technology behind it, using appropriate language features and organization including a diagram.

Students are also looking at the next 2 lines of inquiry which are, societal changes as a result of communications technology and the impacts of communication technology on society.

Students are beginning to research the changes and impacts to society based on their chosen form of communication. After camp, the students will be using that information to work in collaborative groups and explain their research and their thinking by using an app or computer program of their choice.

Students have continued to inquire into the difference between qualitative and quantitative data. Students have chosen a position either for or against for the following statement, Social media improves the way we communicate. Students are then required to find both qualitative and quantitative evidence proving their position.

For maths we are continuing to work on multiplicative thinking, and using efficient mental and written strategies to multiply decimals by a one digit integer.

Congratulations to those students who represented KJS this week in Football and Netball. It is great to see our students participating in sports and improving their skills and sportsmanship.

DECEMBER DATES

The KJS students have been invited to the KGV Food Expo on Monday December 5th. Students will partake in sampling different foods from many different cultures. A great activity to look forward to when we return from camp.

Y6 will be having their end of term party on Monday December 12th. We will have a popcorn machine in that day and the students will get to choose what kind of activities they want to do for the morning. Casual clothes can be worn on this day.

Just a reminder that school finishes on Tuesday December 13th at 12:00pm.
