Dear All,

On Thursday and Friday we thoroughly enjoyed watching the performances of Annie Jr. Playing to a full house on both evenings I was extremely proud to see our students shine. With more than 100 students from Y2 – Y6 taking part, all ably assisted by a huge number of extremely dedicated teaching staff and parents it was much more than just a show – it was a demonstration of how the KJS community can achieve great things when it comes together. Please take a look at our Facebook page to see some of the wonderful photographs that were taken. DVDs of each show will be available to purchase soon. On both performance nights we held our Christmas sale using Ayden’s mum Suzanne’s amazing goods. I was also delighted to add some beautiful Indian Christmas tree decorations to the sale, kindly donated by Sanyuktaa, Anushri’s mum.  Thank you both for your generosity. Thanks also go to all the parents who helped on the stall as well as all the willing customers who have helped us to raise ALL the money that we needed to buy a visualiser for each classroom! This is an astonishing feat and we are all extremely grateful.  On the performance nights, as we were performing a show about orphans we decided it would be apt to collect money for the Po Leung Kuk adoption service. As we all know, not everyone has such a lucky opportunity as Annie had in the story so we wanted to show our support to one of the amazing services in the territory who work to support these children. If you were not able to donate at the performance but wish to do so this week the donation box will be left in the school office until Friday.

My thanks to Mrs Hadley for organizing the Kowloon Netball Tournament at KJS last week and to all the teachers who helped with refereeing and scoring – it was great to see so many schools here and to watch our girls in action. Some of the team went straight from the tournament to perform in the show!

I am looking forward to seeing as many people as possible at the school disco on the 9th December – it has been a long and successful term and it is time to celebrate together. It will be a RAINBOW disco with a dress code to match for each year group. Please note there is no need to dress completely in your year group colour…. Just a little splash of your designated colour will do! Tickets can be purchased using the attached form.

Y4 camp starts today, with Y5 and Y6 following closely behind. Although out of school recruiting from tomorrow onwards I hope to pop into each camp at some point in the week.  I hope those of you with a child away for a few days will be able to enjoy a slightly quieter house than usual!

Wishing you a wonderful week – don’t forget to purchase your disco tickets!

Congratulations to Mateo’s Dad James following the launch of his children’s book ‘The Medusa File’ this month. Aimed at older readers, this Amazon review gives you a flavour of what the book is about. I have it already on my bedside table ready to read in the holdays!

‘When Harvey Ashton finds a secret file hidden by his father, he begins to wonder if his parents’ death was really an accident. The file has three names on it, two of which Harvey has never heard of, but the third name he knows very well. The search for the truth behind the tragic death of his parents takes him on an adventure to Japan, where he meets a helpful stranger. He needs to decide if he can trust this man. Doing so puts his life in danger, but it could also help him discover the truth about his parents…..’

Good luck with the book James – I’m sure you will have lots of KJS families supporting you!

Congratulations to Mr Fay who ran with the ESF Elite Team in the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay a couple of weeks ago. As the winning team the teachers raised HKD 80,000 for the IndoChine Starfish Foundation. The Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF) is an International Charity which helps some of the poorest, most disadvantaged children in Cambodia. ESF have been working in close partnership with ISF for the last few years, creating a partnership from which all children can benefit.

The Starfish Story

The Starfish Story encapsulates ISF’s belief that each and every one of us can make a difference, one child at a time.

“The tide has gone out and has left a million starfish stranded on the beach. They are slowly dying under the heat of the sun. A little girl is walking along this beautiful sandy beach. As she walks along, she picks up a starfish and throws it back into the sea. She then picks another one and another, throwing each into the sea. An old man watches her for a while then walks up to her and says “What are you doing little girl? There are millions of starfish out there dying. You cannot believe that you can make a difference”. The girl kneels down, picks up a starfish, throws it into the sea and says “I made a difference to that one”.
