Yr1 Curriculum Update – 27/10/17

Working together to achieve success for every child

Greetings! – It’s our 5th edition!

Each week we will write a newsletter keeping you up-to-date and informed about your child’s learning. This will provide you with a good understanding of happenings in Year 1 and how you can support these learning experiences.

Transdisciplinary Learning – It’s all connected!

This week, the students have continued to inquire into the central idea, ‘People explore to understand the world’. Personal inquiry time has provided students with plentiful learning opportunities to question, explore and wonder, supporting the development of their curiosity to find out more about the world around them. Consequently, students are starting to pursue their own interests and passions equipped with the tools and strategies to explore independently.

Y1 provocation activities have provided students with a variety of exploration opportunities to use their senses, finding out more about the world around them.

Within Maths, students continue to copy, extend, describe and translate patterns with objects and drawings. The ongoing development of these skills will lead to students investigating, describing and recognising patterns in the number system (e.g. skip counting). Meanwhile, in Language, students continue to use their own ideas, feelings and experiences as stimuli for drawing and writing using simple repetitive sentence structures (I went, I like, etc).

Kindest regards, The Year 1 Team
