Yr2 Weekly Update – 11/18/16

First of all, we’d like to say a huge ”CONGRATULATIONS!” to all of our students, staff and parents who helped make the Annie production a roaring success.  All Year 2 students were able to watch the rehearsals during the week and witness, first hand, the importance of speaking clearly and loudly with expression (skills they are currently learning).

Math learning over the last week varied from class to class. Some classes explored symmetry through fun, challenging engagements, including reflection art and Mine Craft art.  Other classes investigated how calendars are organized and went on a treasure hunt to find key dates to add to their own calendars.

Much of the week’s Literacy was embedded within lessons related to our unit of inquiry.  Students applied their knowledge of sentences by writing their ideas about why people celebrate the same event differently.  They were encouraged to use connective words, such as “because” or “so” to make their explanations clear.  They also had to read information from books and simple websites and find the key information that answered the question “Why do people celebrate?”

Next week, we will be completing our in-school learning related to expressing ourselves through celebrations.  As always, we hope they will grow to understand that they are learning no matter where they are.

Enjoy your weekend!
