Yr3 Weekly Update – 30/9/16

Central Idea:

Relationships are affected by the way people communicate.

This week was the final week of the unit and the children we have been exploring a variety of strategies to retain and restore relationships. Two of the tools that students have been using are the WITS model and the problem solving wheel. These are particularly useful for solving problems that the children often encounter in the classroom and on the playground. Although this unit has finished, we will be encouraging the students apply these strategies in the future.

Maths

In maths this week, we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. To do this, we have been using 100 charts, number lines and base 10 blocks. This is a skill we use all the time in our day to day lives. Why don’t you go shopping with your child to give them practice rounding to the nearest 10 and 100? Together, maybe you could predict how much your shopping bill will be.

A great website to practise and challenge the kids…

Literacy

This week during our literacy sessions we have continued using our writing skills and our narrative knowledge to construct problems/conflicts that characters are involved in. Our next step is to use the knowledge we have gained from our Unit of Inquiry to solve those conflicts with an effective strategy. The tricky bit is to make sure we are thinking about perspective and what effect our actions will have on others.
