Yr4 Weekly Update – 01/06/17

Welcome to 2017! Happy new year to all our Y4 families (I will need to say this again in about a month’s time!) and welcome back to school. We have been hearing about all the wonderful things children have been doing in their holidays and travels.

This week we have focused on our third line of inquiry around human responsibility towards living things. Students have had the chance to research and discuss the impact that humans have on their chosen organism, assess whether the impact is positive or negative and begin to decide what responsibilities humans in general, and themselves in particular might have towards them.

Maths

We are finishing off our project on multiplicative thinking by looking at how division relates to multiplication. We have used arrays to demonstrate the concept and are exploring different written methods for dealing with division with remainders.

Literacy

We have continued to research our reports on a chosen organism and practice being ‘academically honest’ by recording and citing the sources of information we find. We are beginning to learn the reading comprehension  skills of ’summarising and synthesising’ in order to incorporate the information we find in our own writing.

This week some students had the opportunities to view the Year 6 presentations on technology and give them feedback on their performances. The Year 6s really appreciated a ‘live’ audience.

Home learning
Children can use Big Universe to develop their reading skills and knowledge around their chosen organism, or explore the impact of human activity in the natural world.
