Yr4 Weekly Update – 05/26/17

We’ve got stuck into our new unit on Where We Are in Place and Time this week, trying to figure out exactly what it is that historians do, and how they use evidence to make true stories about the past. We’ve also begun to look at the features that define a civilisation. There are some really fascinating documentaries on different ancient civilisations which children could spend some time inquiring into in their home learning, as well as looking around their local area for evidence of the past.

We are in the process of doing our final round of reading assessments and general trend of progress shows how much students have been practicing, and how well they have begun to implement the comprehension skills we have been teaching this year.

Our maths has been focused on exploring shape and space this week as well as some general number assessments to inform the end of year reports. Two dimensional shapes can be sorted according to their properties in several different ways and children have been discussing their choice of criteria for grouping them.
