Yr6 Weekly Update – 07/10/16

The last week of the first half term – where has the time gone??? The students have had a very busy week completing their ISA assessments in Maths, Reading and Writing.

We are nearing the end of our inquiry into governing systems and the students have been finishing their personal research into the responsibilities of citizens and leaders within different governing systems. This information has then been used to prepare for a debate where students are using their dialectical thinking to try and show both sides of a given motion. This has involved being an effective communicator in both stating their own reasons and listening to the points given by peers with an opposing view.

In Maths we have been dissecting decimals as a way of showing our understanding. Students challenged themselves to see how far they could dissect part of a number line.

Students have been given time to reflect on the skills and dispositions developed within the unit and consider potential next steps.

Games lessons throughout this unit of inquiry have given students the opportunity to develop their cooperation skills and show integrity. In some classes students designed their own games where players had to cooperate to be successful.

On Thursday we took part in World Outdoor Day where classes chose to spend a whole or part of a lesson outside.
