Principal’s Message

Dear KJS families,

Once again this week, our learning at KJS was disturbed by the weather. I would like to, as always, thank all of the KJS community for their support and understanding with this.

We held our ‘You tell us’ meetings this week both in school and online (due to the closure). These meetings are vital to enable you as parents to share more information about your child, how they learn and an opportunity to of course meet their new teacher. We are pleased so many of you were able to attend.

On Monday, we held two parent workshops in the library. These informative workshops were an opportunity to share the amazing resources we use at KJS both online and at school. Huge thanks must go to Ms Lau, our teacher librarian for putting together these really useful sessions and of course to our student helpers who were on hand to help.

You will see more information in this newsletter regarding our upcoming camps for Years 4-6. These overnight camps are an incredibly important part of the curriculum and part of the many varied experiences we provide our students here at KJS. They are also a huge amount of fun!

Next week, we are hosting the first of the PTA supported year group coffee mornings for parents, beginning with Year 3. These events  are an opportunity for you to come and have an informal chat with myself and other parents. It also enables me to learn more about our wonderful KJS community. The dates of these were shared by the PTA earlier this week.So please do attend if you can.

Have a safe and restful weekend.

Mr Gavin MacGregor

Principal

News from the PTA

Hello KJS Community,

What a few turbulent days we have had! We hope everyone is safe and that you were not too disrupted by the weather.

Even though we have had less week days on site, the PTA Team have had some big initiatives going on, including one that will reduce wastage of our uniforms. Read on to see what we have been up to….

PTA Coffee Mornings with Mr Gavin MacGregor and the SLT Team.

The PTA are delighted to sponsor Year Group Coffee Mornings to meet our new Principal, Mr Gavin MacGregor and members of the SLT for an informal chat, meet and mingle (and some delicious cookies!).

Don’t miss this chance to personally meet and welcome Gavin as he starts his new role as our Principal here at KJS. You may even get the opportunity to ask our Vice Principals, Ms Doucette, Mr Fay and Mr Eastwood,  more questions that they can answer from their valuable experience.

And of course, enjoy connecting and networking with other parents of your children’s year groups- always invaluable!

These events will take place from 8:45 am – 9:45 am on several Wednesdays starting from next week for the Year 3 Families on 20 September.

More details for other year groups can be found on this Google Form which is required for registration.

We look forward to seeing you all soon over the next few weeks!

New Online Programme for Uniform Up-Cycling @ KJS!

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce the launch of our second-hand uniform up-cycling programme ahead of the winter season! In collaboration with our parents, we have devised a simple method to circulate uniforms throughout the year, promoting sustainability and reducing waste. We believe that this initiative will not only benefit families but also teach our children valuable lessons about the environment.

As part of KJS’ sustainability ethos, we are delighted to offer this ongoing service to our community members. It provides a platform for parents who no longer need uniform items to easily donate them to another KJS family in need.

We want to emphasise that there are no fees involved in this process. However, we kindly request a nominal donation from the receiving family to support this initiative. These donations will go towards the PTA, a non-profit organisation, and will be used collectively for the benefit of the school and the children.

By participating in this programme, you not only contribute to the well-being of our community but also instill important values in our children. Let’s work together to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and create a more environmentally conscious future. We can see the effects of climate change in Hong Kong already!

We appreciate your support and look forward to making this initiative a success for everyone involved.

Just follow the simple steps below:

  1. Donors list their available items via a simple Google Form: https://tinyurl.com/KJS-Upcycling-Donations

  1. Parents looking to get uniforms (incl. library bags) may view all available items in one list: https://tinyurl.com/KJS-Upcycling-Inventory

  1. Interested parents contact the donating family directly to arrange drop off & pick up via the PTA office. More details are included in the above links.

Student Success

Thank you for sharing your child’s achievements with us over the past year.

While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student’s accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated.

That being said, we encourage you to share your child’s achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child’s accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community’s strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students.
