Principal’s Message

Dear KJS families,

Well it certainly feels much more of a normal week here at KJS. When we have sudden closures due to the inclement weather, we do our very best to continue to support the students with their learning. We also recognise that for many families getting online at certain set times of the day is challenging, particularly those with many siblings.

Our approach to these one day closures is based on flexibility for our families and our staff. In the small chance we have closures for longer periods of time, our approach would ensure a more structured online learning offer.

A huge thank you to the Year 3 parents who came to meet me at our first PTA supported coffee morning on Wednesday this week. It was a really nice way to meet families in an informal environment, while also being able to answer any questions regarding life in general here at KJS. You can still sign up for the other year group sessions that are taking place over the next few weeks.

My approach as Principal here at KJS is to be very visible, open and transparent. I welcome discussion, feedback and suggestions from the whole KJS community. If you wish to discuss anything please feel free to contact me directly or via the school office and I will do my best to find time to speak over the phone or meet you face to face.

Have a safe and restful weekend.

Mr Gavin MacGregor

Principal

KJS and Crossroads Foundation

Upcycle old sports shoes and sports kit by bringing them into school.

KJS is collecting used footwear and sports kits over the coming months for the HK Crossroads Foundation. Crossroads help distribute such items to those in need; both in Hong Kong and across the world. There will be a collection box just outside the school office for items.

*Please note; all donated items MUST be in good condition.

Crossroads’ Foundation provides aid for relief and development in over 90 countries, as well as in Hong Kong, their headquarters.

News from the PTA

Hello KJS Community,

We hope you all have had a smooth week and are getting ready to enjoy the weekend.

We had the first in our series of year group Coffee Mornings last Wednesday and the parents enjoyed meeting Gavin MacGregor and Dawn Doucette for an animated and personal chat with them about various topics.

We really appreciate the time they give and would encourage parents to take this opportunity to connect with them.

PTA Coffee Mornings with Mr Gavin MacGregor and the SLT Team.

These events will take place from 8:45 am – 9:45 am on several Wednesdays. The next one is on Wednesday 27 September for Year 4 parents.

More details for other year groups can be found on this Google Form which is required for registration.

Winter is coming!

It’s hard to believe it when we are sitting in 30 degree sunshine, but winter is coming and soon it will be time to pull out the cold season clothes, including uniforms. If you have any uniform items that you no longer need, please support the Up-Cycling programme here at KJS and show our children how to value the environment and save money by donating unwanted uniform items to other families who can use them.

Just follow the simple steps below:

  1. Donors list their available items via a simple Google Form: https://tinyurl.com/KJS-Upcycling-Donations

  1. Parents looking to get uniforms (incl. library bags) may view all available items in one list: https://tinyurl.com/KJS-Upcycling-Inventory

Monsters Ball!

The PTA are planning a Monsters Ball in October, watch this space for a Spooktacular Halloween!

More details will be shared in next week’s Newsletter, so make sure you look out for it.

As always, we welcome parents to reach out to Rekha Mahbubani in the PTA office to connect with us.

Student Success

Thank you for sharing your child’s achievements with us over the past year.

While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student’s accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated.

That being said, we encourage you to share your child’s achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child’s accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community’s strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students.
