Acting Principal’s Message

Dear KJS Families,

First, thank you for your engagement during our recent Three-Way Conferences. The feedback that I have received from teachers indicates that it was a very positive and supportive experience for our students’ learning. As I have shared on multiple occasions, we are on a journey to support our students to become Visible Learners – students who embody the characteristics of effective learners, learners who are assessment-capable, learners who can monitor and learn from their own thinking while they are learning, and learners who seek, receive, act on, and give feedback – so I hope that you are beginning to recognise these aspects in your children.

We are pleased to be able to offer a wonderful African Drumming experience to our Year 5 students again this year, and the sessions will continue for the next couple of weeks. Having experienced some of this firsthand at KJS, I can confidently say that it is an energising, collaborative, and uplifting opportunity for our students.

As you may already be aware, we were given permission by the EDB to remove the dividers in the classrooms with immediate effect. We, of course, acted on this very quickly to give teachers and students the agency to shape the learning environments to best suit the needs of the learning and learners. We will also be able to return to eating lunch in the classroom from December 1st. That is also great news, as we will be able to use our School Hall for regular assemblies and other events. I am also beginning to work with the PTA to restore an external provider lunch option. If all goes smoothly, we hope to be able to begin offering this again in January.

Finally, a big ‘thank you’ to all of you who were able to attend one of our two in-person Library sessions yesterday. These sessions were the latest offerings in a very positive run of in-person opportunities for KJS families this school year. Thank you to Ms. Lau and the Library Team for their efforts in preparing and hosting the sessions.
