Yr5 Weekly Update – 06/16/17

Producers and Consumers Play Interdependent Roles in the Economic System.

Unit of Inquiry

This week, the Year 5 Unit has been a hive of activity as students make final preparations for next week’s Market Day: products are being made, ads are being created, business plans are being finalised and spreadsheets are being updated. The last few days have certainly been a steep learning curve for many of our students as they deal with various issues related to time-management, presentation and creativity. Trying to work cohesively as a group has also been challenging for some, but it has been lovely to see students work together and overcoming their differences for the benefit of their businesses- true business professionals in the making!

Reminder: Parents are invited to the Year5 Market Day on 21/06/2017. Please note that you are welcome to visit the stalls between 9-10am only, with the aim of seeing what your children have been up to and to have a look at their products and business plans. Purchases however, will not be permitted during this time.

Maths

Students have been working on the topic of time: converting between 12 and 24 hour time and learning how to read timetables. In addition to this, students have been learning about percentages and how to find percentages of quantities- a skill students may find useful for Market Day next week!

English

Students continue to work on their advertisements, using checklists to ensure they include all the necessary features to make their adverts as persuasive as possible. Students have also been writing up instructions to make their products, which will be on show on Market Day. The hope is that some of their customers will be inspired and make products of their own!
