Acting Principal’s Message

Dear KJS Families,

On Tuesday, our Y5 students enjoyed a fantastic day camp experience led by Asia Pacific Adventure (APA). This was a make-up day for the Y4 day that was missed last school year because of bad weather. Outdoor education is highly valued at KJS and having the experience so early in the school year undoubtedly strengthened our students’ sense of belonging. We have planned day camps for Y4-6 throughout the course of the school year and more information will follow in a timely manner.

I had the privilege of taking part in a Student Council development day last Friday, and I can say with confidence that student leadership and voice is alive and well at KJS. The energy and enthusiasm was palpable, and the students’ solid understanding of the concept of leadership is really impressive. They are genuinely motivated to serve their fellow peers by being curious, listening more than they talk, and noticing instead of judging. I can’t wait to see them take action in the near future.

Speaking of student voice, the opportunity to join the KJS Times team, once again, attracted a lot of attention. While we would love to provide every interested student the chance to be part of the KJS Times, we simply can’t reasonably manage the numbers. Instead, students will be interviewed by staff members so that they are able to share their thinking about how they plan to contribute. This process will also help our students to decide if the high level of commitment needed is a good fit for them at the moment.

For those of you that plan to sign-up for after-school music lessons in the near future, I would like to inform you that we have secured the services of a local music tutor company, Tasto Music. This company has a lot of experience in this field and already holds strong connections with our current music tutors. We hope that the parent and student experience is a positive one.

Kind regards,

Dr Jamie Schmitz
